Boy, we are in for a treat Sunday night into Monday when the supermoon combines with a lunar eclipse. Rachel Witter from Eyewitness News tells us what to expect.

This hasn't happened since 1982 and won't happen again until 2033. Three things will be simultaneously happening

  1. It's a supermoon. It's called that because the moon is full and in it's closest point in its orbit around earth. It will appear 14% larger and 33% brighter than a normal full moon.
  2. A lunar eclipse will occur. The earth will line up directly with the sun and moon. The moon will completely fall in the shadow of the earth.
  3. The moon will not be completely dark but have a coppery red color. This happens because a lot of light scatters off the Earth's atmosphere.

The supermoon lunar eclipse will start 10:11 pm Sunday night and end at 11:23.

I spoke with Eye Witness News, Chief Meteorologist, Rachel Witter, and she tells us what to expect with the weather, and if we will see the supermoon lunar eclipse.
