Taylor Swift to Develop Her Own Mobile Game
Dissatisfied with the prospect of leaving any aspect of the entertainment industry untouched, Taylor Swift is gearing up for the development of her very own mobile game.
Perhaps inspired by Kim Kardashian’s wildly successful Kim Kardashian: Hollywood game, Swift -- who promised she'd take a break following the conclusion of her 1989 World Tour -- has officially partnered with Glu Mobile to create her own smartphone game for public consumption, due out later this year.
"Bringing with her over 227 million social followers, I am thrilled to welcome Taylor Swift, an award-winning singer, musician and songwriter, to Glu's family,” wrote Glue Chairman and CEO Niccolo de Masi in a press release via E! News. "We realize that Taylor and her global fan base expect a new and highly differentiated mobile gaming experience...Glu is equally committed to designing never before seen gameplay elements that utilize Taylor's unique creativity. Accordingly, we will spend the required development time to ensure this innovation is achieved."
Whether Swift’s app will match the success of Kim Kardashian’s remains to be seen -- and will likely be tough. Kim Kardashian: Hollywood earned the company over $43 million in just over three months, according to a 2014 report from Variety.
Sadly, Katy Perry’s recently developed mobile game Pop -- another Glu Mobile venture -- hasn’t seen nearly as much success. As of December 2015, the gamed had only climbed as high as No. 54 on the chart of free iPhone purchases.
