The Halloween Candy-Scary Movie Calorie Scale
At Halloween, two things everyone wants to know: How much candy can I eat? And, what can I do to lose weight at the same time? Well, the Beth & Dave morning show is here to help with a healthy plan for eating candy and watching scary movies.
We've studied the calorie counts of some top candies and combined that with the research recently conducted at the University of Westminster in London, England. That study had people watch horror movies for 90 minutes, then measured their heart rate, oxygen intake, and carbon dioxide output to determine which scary movies ate up the most calories. So, combining the two sets of data, here are our picks for top movie-candy pairings:
-Recipe #1: Enjoy one regular-sized Reese's Peanut Butter Cups (181 calories) while watching The Exorcist end-to-end, which would burn 212 calories, and you'll be ahead of the game.
-Recipe #2: Watching The Shining, which burns 299 calories, while eating a bag of Skittles (251 calories), would still work out in your favor.
-Recipe #3: Eating a Snickers bar (280 calories) while sitting through Jaws, which burns 221 calories, would still leave room for two or three Hershey's Kisses (22 calories each).
-Recipe #4: One 3 Musketeers Bar (262 calories) could be paired with a viewing of Alien (198 calories) might be a bad idea, but if you added the Aliens sequel, you'd be in good shape.
-Recipe #5: The Blair Witch Project is only 81 minutes, so that would burn only about 100 calories, so pair that flick with about 13 pieces of candy corn and call it a draw.
