Most people know when they should replace their mattress, but what about those other bedroom items like pillows, sheets, and comforters?

You've probably heard that you're supposed to get a new mattress every ten years, and for the most part that's true. There are some other factors (depending on whether it's a memory foam mattress, whether it's a spring mattress, and believe it or not, depending on your age), but yes, the average "lifespan" for a mattress is ten years.

But what about those other items around your bed? Do you know how long you're supposed to keep that pillow for? Well, according to NBC News BETTER, your average pillow lasts for about one to two years. That's because your pillow actually absorbs oils from your face and body, and dead skin cells (gross, right?!).

Alright, so now you're probably wondering about that comforter... Well, you're in luck, because you're more likely to get tired of the look of your comforter and think it's out-of-style before you actually have to replace it. NBC News BETTER says to toss your comforter after 15 to 25 years. You could end up replacing your bed twice before needing to replace your comforter! But like we said earlier, you'll probably get tired of your comforter and decide to get a new one before you actually need to.

The last bedroom item we want to talk about replacing are those sheets. Do you know how often your sheets last before you should buy new ones? Well, this one is pretty easy. Think of those sheets like clothes, and pay attention to them getting and feeling "worn out." On average, sheets last about two years. But if you spend more money on better quality sheets, they'll last longer.

So now you know where you stand (or should we say "lay"), and you should have a good idea on what you need to replace, if anything. Don't know about you, but the idea of redecorating the bedroom and buying all new everything, just keeps sounding better and better.
